Who owns the economy?
The Cost of Growth
What lies behind the socio-environmental upheavals we are experiencing?
From the climate crisis to migration, from the uncontrolled extraction of natural and human resources to land grabbing, from the arms race to genocide, the world is facing a series of interconnected problems.
These phenomena are deeply rooted in the capitalist structure of our system. However, like all economic systems, capitalism requires change because alternatives are possible and are beginning to flourish, starting with civil society initiatives supported by academia and science.
The Cost of Growth connects local struggles against extractivism in Serbia, Italy, and the Sapmi region of Norway with broader debates on justice, democracy, and war.
The film shows how civil society across Europe is rejecting the false solutions put forward by institutions and building alternatives, from organizing grassroots movements to establishing new forms of cooperation and solidarity and spreading new socio-economic practices.
