Letters from Anan Yaeesh / Part 1

by Anan Yaeesh

We publish the first two letters from Anan Yaeesh, a Palestinian political refugee detained in Terni.

Letter dated 24.09.2024

To all Palestinians around the world—on every land and under every sky, there in the resisting West Bank, there in Gaza full of pride, within the occupied territories, and in refugee camps and the diaspora—

To you, who have tested the limits of patience and before whom dignity itself bows, I say: do not grieve and do not despair, for by God, after hardship comes relief, and after patience comes victory.

Know this: every Palestinian in the world is a resistor. A resistor is not only the one who takes up arms—you are a resistor if you breathe, if you paint, if you write, if you dream.

Being Palestinian is enough to be a resistor.

Don’t think that this terrorist government led by Benjamin Netanyahu and the fascist Ben Gvir only kills Palestinian fighters who carry weapons. No—they kill infants, the elderly, women and children; even the trees and stones do not escape their savagery.

They want to wipe out the Palestinian people because they know you are the only free people in a world enslaved. But they are wrong. We never disappear: when one of us dies, ten are born in their place. And we are all resistance.

They go on their channels and in their false media to portray the Palestinian resistor as a terrorist, to paint the resistance as terrorism. I swear by God—you are wrong and you have failed.

We tell you: the women of the world are no longer able to give birth to someone like the Palestinian resistor, the one who sacrifices their youth and life for their homeland and people.

The one who does not fear death nor prison, who walks tall, feet on the ground, head in the sky, proud as mountains, eyes fixed on Al-Aqsa. And when they go, they go with courage—never fleeing.

A Palestinian who withholds their soul and blood from Palestine does not deserve to be called Palestinian, nor to be buried in its soil, soaked with the blood of martyrs. The land will reject them—they will find no warmth or peace, neither in life nor in death.

The organized Israeli terrorism, defeated in its battle in Gaza and the West Bank, is now shifting towards Lebanon. Though it has caused death, destruction, and displaced thousands, it remains defeated in the face of a people’s unbreakable will. Its next targets will likely be Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Yemen, chasing the illusion of a greater state. Yet, with God's help, this will mark the beginning of the end for this occupying regime.

Where are you, leaders of the Arab world?
Where are the commanders of armies who boast every year of their strength, their weapons, and their aircraft?
If we had even a quarter of your capabilities, we would have already liberated not only Palestine, but the whole world.
But where are you?
I don’t appeal to you in the name of your religion, for that seems to have vanished.
But has your pride and honor disappeared too—what once distinguished your ancestors?

Is there anything left that can still stir your conscience?

I swear—you will all be held accountable for the blood spilled in Palestine, for the murdered children, on a day when no one can escape judgment.
I do not mourn those who preceded us in martyrdom, for they have achieved a great victory. They believed in God and kept their promise.
We pray that God gathers us with them in Paradise, and honors them in the afterlife as they honored us in this life.

We ask God to raise their ranks in the hereafter, just as they elevated our spirits in life—for they are the true guardians of dignity and sacrifice. They lit the path after a long darkness.

We pray for the freedom of our brave prisoners in Israeli jails, for the healing of the wounded, and for patience and comfort in the hearts of our people in Palestine and Lebanon.
Salute to the hands that still pull the trigger despite all the pain and hardship.
And shame to those who watch in silence, stripped of mercy and humanity towards Palestine and its children.
Let all the women of the world weep if the women of Palestine are not allowed to rejoice.

A greeting of great respect to the free men and women of the world, especially the Italian people, who defy every obstacle and break the silence to let the world hear the voice of freedom and the oppressed—offering lessons in humanity and saying to the tyrant: “Enough.”

And how could you not—when you yourselves resisted for years against Nazi and fascist occupation on this very land?

A deep tribute of respect to the voice of truth and the beacon of justice: Al Jazeera, which has always been the voice of the people and a supporter of the oppressed, never fearing criticism.
May God sustain you as a voice for Palestine and the resistance.

Long live free and Arab Palestine!
Long live Palestine, its land and its people!
Long live the resistance — may God protect it!
Glory and eternal honor to our noble martyrs!
Freedom for the prisoners of freedom!
A swift recovery to our brave wounded!

O Palestinian people, I say nothing but what God Almighty has said in the Holy Qur’an (Surah An-Nisa, 4:104):
‘Do not lose heart in pursuing the enemy. If you are suffering, they are also suffering — but you hope from Allah what they do not hope for. And Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.’

Dear friend, I need to explain something to you.

Today I’m in an Italian prison because they want to show Israel that the Italians are with them — with Israel. So what is happening is not normal.

For example, in 2005, when I was a child, I was arrested in an American and British prison because I was part of the Al-Aqsa Brigades.
Israel tried to kill me four times for that reason.
For the same reason, I was arrested in 2006 and expelled from Palestine in 2013.
In 2015, Israel made the same request to Norway.
And for the same reason, I came to Italy, asked for asylum, and received it — because I am in the Al-Aqsa Brigades.
I was arrested in Jordan last year for the same reason, and now Italy has arrested me again for the same reasons.

So, nothing is new. It’s political — just to show that Israel has been following me for a long time, not just now.
And I know — I’m sure — that if I’m released, or if I spend a few years here and am later released, Israel will never stop.
They will never leave me alone.
They won’t stop until they kill me.
And that is their message to me, but of course they won’t say it on TV or in public.

And the Italian police know this.
They are 100% sure that Ali and Mansour are just my friends.
They didn’t do anything and didn’t know anything.
But they were arrested just so the police could say they caught a “terrorist group” — not just Anan, whom Israel wants.

So my life is not a secret.
People don’t know me, but the police of every country know me very well.
It’s all just a political game.

But, as I said before — I will never give up until we have freedom for Palestine and the Palestinian people.
Because my life, and everything I have, is for Palestine.
Palestine always deserves more.

Thank you, my dear, and thanks to everyone who supports us.
Yes, Flavio told me that on April 30th there was a group of people who came to court to support me.
And as you surely know, Israel’s request was rejected — but it’s just a game between them.

But now my hearing will be public — not like before.
So anyone can come in and watch.
So I’d love to see you there.
Of course, I’ll be on camera, but I can see everything.

Thank you all for your strength and your kind words.
And yes — it’s true that we will never be terrorists, because resistance is an act of love.
And I, who love life more than anyone, would prefer to die to gain freedom for my people, to see all children in Palestine go to school without fear, to see all girls walk the streets without fear.

So yes, I love life.
I have many dreams, just like anyone else in this life.
I have many feelings in my heart.
I want to live in peace and start a family.

But Palestine comes before everything else — even before my life.

Dear friend, once again — thank you for everything.
And I hope one day I can make you, and all those with you, happy.
With all my best wishes and a big hug,

Your friend,
Anan Yaeesh
